Perhaps the best way to describe ECF would be to quote from our Mission Statement in which we make the following three statements.
"Our vision is to see a lively, active and growing church in Enniscorthy. A church that accurately reflects God’s design, where people can see God at work in and through us. Where people can experience the love of God in their lives and where our lives and the lives of others are changed for the better."
"We believe we have been called to see this become a reality in Enniscorthy and surrounding area, and in all the communities within this area."
"Our vision is to see a church not separated by religious background, race, age or status."
The work of Enniscorthy Christian Fellowship originally started in the Autumn of 1997and developed through the work of the mission organisation "Gospel Literature Outreach" (GLO). The first work undertaken in the area was that of door-to-door work, getting to know local residents and offering Christian videos such as the "Jesus" video and other such material.
Following the leading that they had been given and responding to the interest that was demonstrated, other Christian material such as Daily reading booklets, "Our Daily Bread" and "Upper Room" were also given out and each summer every house in Enniscorthy received an evangelistic leaflet which was distributed with the help of the GLO teams.
From these foundations, introductory Bible Studies, such as "Second Look", "Christianity Explained" and "Christianity Explored&From these foundations, introductory Bible Studies, such as "Second Look", "Christianity Explained" and "Christianity Explored" were run for those who had been contacted through the door to door work and in Autumn of 1998 a regular Wednesday Night Bible Study began in response to requests from three people who had completed an introductory Bible Study and who wanted to study the Bible further.
ECF's Children's work began with weekly Children's Clubs being started after holiday clubs that had been run with the help of the GLO Summer Mission Teams. The first of these Summer Camps was held in the Sean Browne estate in summer 1999, followed by one in the Daphne View estate in summer 2000 and then in the Gimont Avenue estate in summer 2002 with many morning having been held in various locations since that time. And it is thanks to the success of these early camps, that Summer Camps are now a regular and very popular feature of not only the Church Calendar but also the summer activities of many children in the Enniscorthy area.
From these Children's Clubs, ECF then developed Youth Clubs in both the Sean Browne & Daphne View estates before going on to focus on it's current Youth Clubs in the Astro Active Centre, Bellefield, and the Gimont Avenue estate.
Monthly Praise Nights held on Fridays and then on Sundays provided those involved in the work with the opportunity for corporate prayer and praise and of course for fellowship. Affording the opportunity for them to come together and worship and to give praise to God for everything that He was (and still is) doing in the area. And these then led to a weekly Sunday Fellowship in the Daphne View Community Centre something that had taken place there since September 2001 before moving to our current location of the Astro Active Centre, Bellefield in March 2010.
The work of the church continued to grow with many other activities and events being introduced as and when the leading to do so was given. Activities such as Women's Groups, Ladies' Bible Studies, Ladies Coffee Break, Mothers and Toddler group, and the Get Real Group which has been running since September 2003.
And events such as the 1999-2000 Millennium Survey (completed by over 500 people) a Bible Exhibition (2000), Public Talks, Parenting Courses, and Family Fun Nights, all of which being a very real and essential part of the church.
Today, much of the activities and events mentioned above continue to be offered to and taken up by residents of Enniscorthy and the surrounding areas and Enniscorthy Christian Fellowship now provides activities and events catering for Children, Youth, Families, Men, and Women alike on a regular basis.
If asked to describe the church today, the only description that I, as the website designer and as a member of the church, could give would be this?
Enniscorthy Christian Fellowship is a small but growing, active, lively and loving community of believers. Multicultural, independent and evangelical, it is a family. A family of people of all ages, who's lives have been impacted and changed by Jesus and who are committed not only to each other but to all those living in Enniscorthy and the surrounding areas as well as to the whole family of Christians.
It is a family that desires for everyone to know, experience, and celebrate what God has done. A family who are truly caring and who's love is truly contagious and who are truly active in the everyday life of Enniscorthy.
